New Google+ ???

My Sister told me about this yesterday.
Has anyone checked it out yet? I'm interested
but afraid at the same time. After FB, I'm so leery
of starting something new. I put the different pages
on faves so I can go back and read when I can fully
absorb.
Please tell me what y'all think about it.

  1. To be perfectly honest I hadn't heard about Google+ - does it work exactly the same??

  2. This new Google+ is apparently going to be similar to FB, but better. I'm just exploring it at the present.

  3. I started it but I couldn't figure it out so I quit. It took all of my photos from my pictures, picasa and Windows Live photo gallery and put them all on there. I am talking hundreds of pictures. I don't want my family pictures floating around on the internet so I deleted them off and didn't go any farther. If you use it, please have your sister work closely with you while getting it set up.

  5. I've been using Google+ for weeks and it's an excellent way to share stuff. But when you register, you have to have your real name tied to the account. They've been locking people out of their accounts for not having real names. I closed my google+ account and just use mom's. I've been posting about this in my blog. More info here: http://pumpkinpuddy.com/2011/08/14/my-blog-is-moving/ & here: http://pumpkinpuddy.com/2011/08/19/why-im-leaving-behind-all-things-google/

They're being nasty about it too. If they think your name is fake they'll suspend your account without notice - and that means everything tied to that name. If you use blogger, youtube, picasa, gmail, or anything else google based it will all be locked down until you either satisfy google that the name is real or you change it to one they like.

It's a real shame, too. Because like everything else google, it's elegant & easy to use. I thought I'd finally found the perfect alternative to facebook until they started enforcing the names policy. So, I think google+ is fantastic, but I think google is being really jerky about their names policy.

  6. For more information on the names issue, research 'nymwars'. There have been tons of complaints but they have no intention of changing it. More about their motivation in this article: http://www.businessweek.com/technology/google-confirms-it-aims-to-own-your-online-id-08292011.html

  7. Not to hog the comments, but I just now learned about a new social networking place designed by Snuffy Norton where you can be whoever you want to be. It's http://www.canbesocial.com/. I just signed up. The user interface is very intuitive and easy to use.

  9. I have a spot on Google Plus but most of my friends remain on FB so I don't think I can really move. Moves like this ruined the community from WLS and so I'm very leery to give that another real try unless FB went belly up and I don't see that happening.

  10. Oh Google is doing what??? I have my hands full with blogger/blogspot (now owned by Google) changing the graphic user interface. It's way better than the previous one, like photos actually go where you tell them to instead at the top of the post! With the old Interface, I had to find the HTML code for the photo insert, cut and paste by hand where I hope it would be! But I'm still getting used to the change.

As to using Google Plus, My blog is merged with my gmail, my YouTube and Google Checkout accounts. All under my Stage/Art Pen Name...

I'm afraid the Google Monster might eat me up... lol.

  12. I have never used my real name for anything on the web! especially when I found how easily strangers or ex's can find everything. I am on G+ and have no problem using my web name.(Jade)

  13. Reading many of these comments, i realize how ignorant I am on some of the things i'm attached to. I joined google + but don't use it I just can't keep up with the constant changes, OK they may be for the better, but if you're not surfing most os the day every day, it can be a shock to discover what you thought you knew, you don't any more, it's a constant learning curve.
BTW thanks for your visits and comments on my blog.

  14. I signed up for Google+ too but sadly have not been able to figure it out yet. I have NO CLUE what I am doing. I think Facebook is MUCH easier.

  15. I will not be adding anything new like Google + I barely have time to keep up with blogging and use Facebook for family and old friends to keep up with them. I do hate how they keep changing everything. Anymore I spend more time trying to keep my security intact instead of spending time visiting other people or even updating my own stuff.
